Kukui Grove
Kauai Arbor Day Tree Giveaway
The Kauai Arbor Day Tree Giveaway will take place on November 8, from10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., at Kukui Grove in the parking lot behind K-Mart (at the Monday Farmer’s Market location, not in front of Macy’s).

There will be 1,500 free trees at this year’s giveaway. The focus is on native plants and the giveaway will feature a variety of species, such as: a`ali`i, alahe`e, hala, lama, noni, loulu, milo, kamani, kou, ‘ōhi‘a lehua, and Kauai’s endemic Munroidendron racemosum. There will be free compost available, cacao seedlings to the first 50 attendees, and educational giveaways.

On the way to the tree tent, participants can stroll down the “Tree Trail,” which is lined with educational booths displaying information about a variety of tree-related topics. This gives attendees the opportunity to earn additional “Tree Tokens” in exchange for learning something new.

Another way to earn additional “Tree Tokens” for extra free trees is to participate in the “Weeds for Trees” program. Bring in a weed like Australian tree fern, fiddlewood, or kahili ginger for the invasive species bounty bin and then take home an extra native plant as a replacement.

There will be presentations given in the “Talk Story Tree Tent” about things like how to care for native trees and fruit trees, the importance of a healthy forest, invasive species issues, and preserving bird habitats. And there will be fun games and art activities for the keiki.

Mahalo to Kaulunani Urban and Community Forestry Program for making this free event possible. It is locally coordinated by Garden Island Resource Conservation & Development, Kauai Landscaping Industry Council, National Tropical Botanical Garden, Kukui Ula, Hawaii Invasive Species Council, The Kauai Outdoor Circle, and Kauai Nursery & Landscaping.
