Kukui Grove, Kaua‘i Arbor Day Tree Giveaway
On Saturday, November 4, the annual free tree giveaway will be held from 9 a.m. to noon (or until all plants are given away). It is sponsored by the Kaua‘i Landscaping Industry Council and Garden Island Resource Conservation & Development, Inc.
The event is held at Kukui Grove in the parking lot behind Kmart. There will be 1,200 plants at this year’s giveaway. A variety of noninvasive and native species will be featured, such as: cacao, native hibiscus species, papaya, and Hawaiian ‘awa. There will also be free compost, educational giveaways, and a booth where plant experts will answer questions.
The very popular Keiki Planting Zone will be set up again this year. This favorite activity teaches youngsters how to transplant young seedlings and promotes the growing of plants.
Educational booths are sponsored by many of the island’s local conservation groups. By “talking story” with these educators, you can earn stamps that will entitle you to additional free trees. Be sure to come early! The event closes when all of the trees have been given away.
